As the royal family prepares for a new era with Prince William poised to take the throne, speculation is swirling around who will inherit key titles.
Among the potential heirs, Princess Charlotte stands out as a strong candidate to become the next Princess Royal.
But what does this mean for Zara Tindall, and why isn’t she considered a front-runner for this esteemed title?
When Prince William ascends to the throne, his children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—are expected to receive significant royal titles.
Reports suggest that Princess Charlotte, at just nine years old, may be eyeing the title of Princess Royal, currently held by her aunt, Princess Anne.
However, it’s important to note that this title isn’t automatically inherited; it’s typically bestowed by the reigning monarch.
The last time the title was handed out was in 1987 when Queen Elizabeth II granted it to Princess Anne.
At that time, Anne was 36 years old.
Interestingly, Queen Elizabeth never held the title herself, as it can only be given to one living woman at a time.
This means that while Charlotte is in the running, there are some hurdles to clear before she can officially claim the title.
For Charlotte to inherit the title of Princess Royal, two significant events would need to occur.
First, Princess Anne would have to pass away, and second, Prince William must be crowned king.
Until then, the title remains firmly with Anne, who has held it since her mother conferred it upon her.
It’s also worth noting that Charlotte wouldn’t be the first princess to carry the title.
