A shocking scandal has recently emerged within the royal family, implicating Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
The Aliawa of Iwo, Oba Abdelrashid Akambi, has made a stunning revelation, alleging that Meghan paid for a new Yoruba title during her visit to Nigeria alongside Prince Harry last year.
In May 2023, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex undertook a three-day working trip to Nigeria.
During their sojourn, they were graciously received by the Aliawa of Iwo, Osun State, who took the opportunity to confer a special Yoruba name upon Meghan, which was Adetokunbo.
Subsequently, the monarch conveyed his appreciation to Meghan through a letter for the warm reception extended to the royal couple.
However, in a surprising turn of events, Oba Akambi has now asserted that Meghan’s newly acquired title was not bestowed out of goodwill but rather obtained through financial means.
In an official statement issued by the Aliawa’s press secretary, it was alleged that Meghan made a payment in exchange for the Nigerian title during her visit.
The statement further revealed that Meghan Markle, wife of Prince Harry, had expressed gratitude to the Aliawa of Iwo, Osun State, Oba Abdelrashid Akambi, for his hospitality and warm welcome during their visit to Nigeria in May.
The letter acknowledged the Yoruba name, Adetokunbo, given to her by the Aliawa.
During a reception held at Delborough Hotel in Ikoi, Lagos, Oba Akambi, as the sole Yoruba ruler present, bestowed upon Meghan a Yoruba name, along with gifts of Ofi and royal beads.
However, the bombshell accusation surfaced when the Aliawa confessed that Meghan had paid for the new Nigerian title, despite being granted the Yoruba name Adetokunbo.
This startling revelation is poised to shake the royal family, already grappling with multiple controversies surrounding Meghan and her ties to the monarchy.
Meghan has faced persistent allegations of leveraging her royal status for personal benefit, and this latest claim is likely to intensify existing criticisms.
Although representatives of the Duchess of Sussex have refrained from responding to the Aliawa’s allegations, experts in royal matters have cast doubt on the legitimacy of the title-conferring ceremony.
They pointed out the unconventional venue of the hotel reception instead of the monarch’s official residence for such an important event.
Royal commentator Penny Thornton remarked that it is highly irregular for a royal title to be granted outside the royal palace, where customary ceremonies and protocols are observed.
The decision to hold the ceremony at a hotel has raised eyebrows in royal circles.
Moreover, the Aliawa’s statement alluded to negative coverage in the British media regarding the royal couple’s visit to Nigeria, particularly singling out a newspaper that criticized the Aliawa using derogatory terms.
This unfavorable publicity is likely to exacerbate the strained relationship between Meghan and the royal family.
The allegation of purchasing a Nigerian title has only reinforced the perception that Meghan may be exploiting her royal position for personal gain.
As the repercussions of this scandal unfold, the palace’s response remains uncertain.
The ongoing drama surrounding Meghan Markle suggests that tensions within the royal family are far from being resolved anytime soon.
