Kate Middleton and Prince William are making a significant change in their family dynamics by opting to move to a modest four-bedroom property in Windsor, bidding farewell to their live-in nanny for the first time.
In a departure from the norm, the Cambridge family is set to relocate from the bustling Kensington Palace to the more secluded Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate as the summer holidays draw to a close.
Unlike the grandeur of Kensington Palace, Adelaide Cottage offers a more tranquil setting within the Crown Estate’s home park.
This move will provide the royal children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, with the freedom to enjoy outdoor activities such as playing, walking the dog, and horse riding away from the public eye and media scrutiny.
The transition to the modest four-bedroom cottage signifies a significant shift for the Cambridge family as they bid adieu to their live-in nanny, Maria Borrallo.
The Grade II listed property, originally built in 1831 for Queen Adelaide, wife of William IV, will no longer accommodate the live-in staff the family had grown accustomed to at Kensington Palace.
Maria Borrallo, the Spanish Norland nanny who has been a constant presence in the Cambridge household since 2014, will continue to care for the royal children but will now reside nearby instead of within the family home.
The decision to forgo live-in staff like a housekeeper and personal chef reflects the couple’s desire for a more hands-on approach to family life.
Norland nannies, known for their rigorous training that includes a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, undergo a comprehensive four-year program culminating in the prestigious Norland Diploma.
Prospective Norland nannies are required to pay a tuition fee of £14,990 for the upcoming academic year and can expect to earn between £42,000 and £70,000 upon completion of their training.
Despite the changes, the Cambridge family’s nanny, Maria Borrallo, continues to be an integral part of their lives, accompanying them on holidays and even having her own apartment at Anmer Hall, the family’s residence in Norfolk.
The relocation to Windsor not only brings the family closer to Kate’s parents, Michael and Carol Middleton but also places them just a short walk away from the Queen’s private quarters at Windsor Castle.
Additionally, the move to Windsor allows the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to enroll Prince George in a co-educational prep school in Berkshire, marking a new chapter in the young prince’s education.
