Procter & Gamble (PG), a prominent fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company, is joyously marking three decades of delivering high-quality branded products and making significant economic and social contributions to the Nigerian community.
The managing director, John Armour, expressed gratitude for the remarkable achievements made over the past 30 years during the anniversary celebration.
He reiterated PG’s dedication to further enhancing their contributions to the Nigerian economy.
However, amidst the grand celebration, one notable absence was that of Megan Markle.
Known for her association with various PG campaigns in the past, Megan chose not to attend the event.
Instead, she announced a charitable project where she pledged to donate backpacks filled with essential school supplies and feminine hygiene products to underprivileged Nigerian girls.
Interestingly, Megan’s initiative coincided with PG’s own announcement during their 30th-anniversary festivities.
Speculations arose regarding Megan’s actions possibly being a strategic move to rival PG’s brand recognition.
The alleged discord between Megan and PG dates back to their joint participation in a charity campaign for African children in 2017.
Critics pointed out that Megan’s contributions were perceived as minimal during the campaign, as she appeared empty-handed at the event, accompanied by her personal stylist and makeup team.
In contrast, PG made substantial donations to support disadvantaged children.
Critics argued that Megan’s involvement seemed more like a PR opportunity, complete with cameras and free publicity, utilizing the plight of underprivileged children to boost her image.
Notably, there was an incident where Megan posed for photos seemingly gifting African children in a poverty-stricken village, although the gift bags were primarily sponsored by PG.
Additionally, funds allocated for constructing a clean water system in the same village were entirely covered by PG as part of their 30th-anniversary initiatives.
During the anniversary celebrations, PG announced a partnership with Mercy Corps, an international non-profit organization, with a focus on their ‘always keeping girls in school’ program.
This collaboration aims to empower girls by providing life skills training, emergency sanitary kits, and enhancing stakeholder support for menstrual hygiene management in schools.
PG views this partnership as an opportunity to positively impact the lives of numerous girls by promoting proper menstrual hygiene practices within educational institutions.
