In a surprising twist, Princess Kate is now using the title previously held by Queen Camilla.
This shift comes as the royal family prepares to celebrate Camilla’s 77th birthday today.
Before marrying King Charles, Camilla was known as the Duchess of Cornwall, but she never officially held the title of Queen.
As the royal landscape evolved, so did the titles, with Kate stepping into the role of Duchess of Cornwall.
Today, as the royal family gears up to honor Queen Camilla, it’s likely that Princess Kate will extend her warm wishes.
This special day carries extra significance, especially since it marks a year filled with changes for the monarchy.
Following the late Queen Elizabeth‘s wishes, Camilla officially became King Charles’ consort in September 2022, paving the way for Kate to adopt the Duchess of Cornwall title.
Interestingly, many might not realize that before Kate, Camilla had the right to use the title Princess of Wales.
However, during Charles and Camilla’s wedding in April 2005, it was agreed that she would go by H.R.H.
Duchess of Cornwall.
This decision was thought to be a gesture of respect toward Princess Diana, the beloved late Princess of Wales, and aimed at easing any lingering public discontent among Diana’s loyal supporters.
Currently, Princess Kate holds multiple titles: Duchess of Cambridge, Princess of Wales, and Duchess of Cornwall.
She received her Cambridge titles after marrying Prince William in 2011.
Just recently, she made a notable return to Wimbledon, marking only her second public appearance this year following her cancer diagnosis in March.
The royal family has faced its share of health challenges lately.
