In a heartfelt revelation, Prince William shared an amusing yet touching moment involving his daughter, Princess Charlotte, and his recent facial hair experiment.
During an interview in South Africa, he recounted how Charlotte burst into tears upon seeing him with a beard for the first time.
This unexpected reaction prompted William to rethink his new look, leading him to shave it off shortly after.
William humorously mentioned that Charlotte was not a fan of his new facial hair.
He explained, “Well, Charlotte didn’t like it the first time.”
The prince found himself in a dilemma when he realized his daughter’s emotional response; her tears were enough to make him reconsider his grooming choices.
He admitted to having to shave it off because he was “crying uncontrollably.”
The beard made its debut in August when William appeared in a video message welcoming Team GB’s athletes ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
However, just two weeks later, he showed up clean-shaven at a church service, only to bring the beard back as he resumed his autumn engagements.
This back-and-forth has certainly caught the public’s attention.
Interestingly, William dismissed the idea that his beard symbolized a newfound sense of relaxation following his wife Kate’s cancer treatment.
He remarked, “You think it’s intriguing because I couldn’t be more laid back this year.” He emphasized the importance of balancing his professional duties with family time, stating, “You have to keep going and just keep cracking on.”
The conversation took a more serious turn when William opened up about the challenges he faced this past year.
For the first time, he discussed the impact of his father King Charles and wife Kate’s cancer diagnoses.
Reflecting on the last 11 months, he candidly stated, “To be honest, it’s been awful.
I think this year has been the most difficult of my life.”
Despite the personal struggles, William expressed immense pride in how both his father and wife have managed their health battles.
He praised them, saying, “I’m really proud of my wife and my father for handling the things that they have done.” Yet, he did not shy away from acknowledging the emotional toll these experiences have taken on their family.
The King and Princess of Wales both received cancer diagnoses earlier this year, following surgeries in January.
While Kate has completed her chemotherapy, King Charles continues to undergo weekly treatments.
Remarkably, he remains active with official duties and public appearances, showcasing resilience despite the circumstances.
As William wraps up his four-day Earthshot Prize trip in Cape Town, he reflects on the heavy emotional weight carried by his family.
