Princess Anne is gearing up for an important royal visit to Amsterdam later this month, stepping in for during a significant anniversary.

She will represent the King as he travels elsewhere, marking the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden with a two-day trip to Oosterbeek.

The visit is scheduled for September 22, where the Princess will take part in commemorations at the Airborne Museum Hartenstein.

Colonel Oliver Kingsbury, Colonel Commandant of the Parachute Regiment, will also join them, ensuring that the event honors the legacy of those who served during this pivotal moment in history.

Operation Market Garden, launched in 1944, was a bold Allied plan aimed at crossing the Rhine and pushing deep into northern Germany to hasten the end of World War II.

The operation involved brave soldiers from the Polish Airborne Forces, the 101st and 82nd U.S. Airborne Divisions, and the 1st British Airborne Division, all working together to seize key bridges in the Netherlands.

Their landings were executed via gliders and parachutes, showcasing a daring strategy.

Unfortunately, the ambitious plan fell short when 30 Corps was unable to secure the farthest bridge at Arnhem, leading to overwhelming German resistance.

This setback dashed hopes for a swift conclusion to the war, which would drag on until September 1945.

Each year, the courage of the airborne troops is remembered, highlighting their sacrifices and valor.

During her visit, will present four honorary MBEs, recognizing individuals for their contributions.

Following this ceremony, she and Vice Admiral Lawrence will engage with veterans, local officials, volunteers, and military representatives, fostering a sense of community and remembrance.

A highlight of the day will be witnessing a performance by the Red Devils, a renowned parachute display team.

This thrilling demonstration not only honors the airborne heritage but also connects the past to the present, reminding everyone of the bravery displayed during the war.

In addition to her ceremonial duties, Princess Anne will deliver a speech in honor of King Charles, acknowledging the sacrifices made by British, Dutch, and Allied forces.

Her words will serve to reinforce the importance of remembering those who fought for freedom.
