Princess Anne recently shared insights into her brother Charles’ upcoming role as king in a brand new interview.
The Princess Royal humorously mentioned that Charles had been practicing for a while, but she acknowledged that his ascension to the throne would bring about a significant shift in how the family supports him.
During a rare sit-down interview with Canadian news outlet CBC News, Anne expressed confidence that Charles would maintain his dedication to public service even after assuming the position of king.
With less than a week remaining before Charles is crowned king on Saturday, May 6th, Princess Anne highlighted that King Charles has spent over 70 years as the heir to the British throne, a record duration in the country’s history.
Speaking from St. James’ Palace, Anne remarked, “You know what you’re getting because he’s been practicing for a bit, and I don’t think he’ll change.”
She emphasized Charles’ unwavering commitment to his duties and assured that it would persist in his new role.
Delving into the future dynamics within the royal family, Princess Anne underscored the monarch’s central role, stating, “We see ourselves as there to support that role.”
Addressing reports about King Charles’ plans to streamline the monarchy, Anne noted the proposed changes but expressed reservations, saying, “When there was no more people around, it doesn’t look like a good idea from where I’m standing.
I would say I’m not quite sure what else we can do.”
Reports have indicated that Charles is contemplating a leaner royal institution, aiming for fewer working roles and reduced household staff.
In response to polls reflecting a growing lack of support for the monarchy, particularly in Canada where 54% of respondents favored severing ties with the British monarchy, Princess Anne acknowledged the shifting sentiments.
However, she did not offer a definitive stance on the matter.
