Princess Anne surprised everyone with a visit to New York City, becoming the first Senior Royal to travel to the United States since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their royal duties.
Yesterday, Princess Anne embarked on a whirlwind tour of the Big Apple, carrying out four Royal engagements.
This marked a significant moment as it had been nearly 65 years since her late parents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, visited the city.
Arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, Princess Anne was warmly welcomed by His Majesty’s Consul General for New York, Emma Wadesmith.
One of the highlights of her visit was being the guest of honor at a prestigious gala dinner hosted by the English-Speaking Union at the Cosmopolitan Club.
During the event, she delivered a compelling address in a formal Black Tie setting.
The English-Speaking Union of the United States, a charitable organization dedicated to promoting global understanding and goodwill through the English language, hosted the gala.
Before the dinner, Princess Anne embarked on a memorable trip aboard the Staten Island Ferry to visit the National Lighthouse Museum.
During her visit, she was honored with the title of Honorary Chair for the Campaign for Illuminating Future Generations.
As a tribute to her parents, she unveiled a miniature figurine of the Needles Lighthouse from the Isle of Wight.
Reflecting on the significance of lighthouses, Princess Anne emphasized their role in educating people about maritime history and its importance.
She expressed her admiration for the museum’s efforts in preserving and sharing the stories behind these iconic structures.
“Lighthouses have played a crucial role in highlighting the maritime heritage in various forms,” she remarked, underscoring the enduring legacy of these beacons of light.
Interestingly, it was initially Prince William who was scheduled to visit the United States for the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit.
However, his trip was canceled following the passing of Queen Elizabeth on September 8 at the age of 96.
Princess Anne’s unexpected visit to New York City not only filled the void but also provided a unique opportunity to strengthen diplomatic ties and engage with charitable initiatives on an international platform.
