Prince William’s Christmas Conundrum: A Game of Monopoly

In a candid moment, opened up about a family tradition that leaves him feeling a bit frustrated.

While his children, and , revel in the excitement of their favorite games, their dad isn’t quite as enthusiastic about one particular holiday pastime—Monopoly.

This revelation came to light during a visit to the Royal Marston NHS Foundation Trust back in 2021, where he shared his mixed feelings about the royal family’s Christmas customs.

William, now 41, expressed how heartwarming it is to see his kids having a blast with their cousins.

“When my children meet up with my cousins’ children, and they all have a wonderful time playing together, it’s very special,” he said during an interview with Barry Alston of Radio Marston.

His words painted a picture of the joy that fills their home during the festive season, transforming it into a lively and cheerful environment.

However, the Duke of Cambridge had a bone to pick with the game of Monopoly, which has become a staple at their holiday gatherings.

He noted that while the family enjoys this classic board game, it often leads to heightened tensions.

“We love Monopoly and Risk; that’s a good game, it goes on for hours, and usually everyone gets really cross because they lose,” he confessed, hinting at the competitive spirit that can sometimes overshadow the fun.

Monopoly isn’t just a game in the royal household; it’s also a nod to a past family rule.

The late II famously banned it from royal game nights due to the fierce rivalries it sparked among players.

In 2008, revealed the family’s stance on the game, stating, “We’re not permitted to play Monopoly at home.

It becomes too ferocious.” It seems that some traditions die hard, even within the walls of Buckingham Palace.

Despite the Monopoly debacle, the royal kids have a diverse range of interests that extend beyond board games.

William shared that his three children are passionate about music, each gravitating towards different genres and artists.

This eclectic taste in music adds another layer of personality to the young royals, showcasing their individuality.

Interestingly, William got acquainted with the American pop-rock band OneRepublic during the Earthshot Prize event in Singapore last year.

He mentioned that his youngest son, Louis, is a fan of the group, adding a modern twist to the royal family’s musical preferences.

It’s a refreshing insight into how the younger generation is embracing contemporary culture.
