Prince Louis: The Royal Title That Almost Wasn’t

In a twist of royal fate, was nearly left without his coveted title.

Thanks to a significant change made by his great-grandmother, II, the young prince now enjoys the status of His Royal Highness from birth.

Born in 2018, Louis joins his siblings, Prince George and , in receiving this honor, which has deep historical roots tied to royal decrees.

The story begins with a decree set forth by King George V in 1917.

This guideline outlined who among the royal family would receive titles.

At that time, it was decided that only the children of the sovereign and their male-line grandchildren would automatically be granted the titles of prince or princess.

However, this ruling did not extend to great-grandchildren, leaving the likes of Louis, George, and Charlotte in a unique position.

Fast forward to 2013, just before Prince George’s arrival, Queen Elizabeth II recognized the need for change.

She reversed the century-old rule to ensure that her great-grandchildren would be granted royal titles at birth.

This pivotal decision meant that when Louis was born, he would not only be a member of the royal family but also carry the title of H.R.H.

from day one.

This adjustment was not merely ceremonial; it symbolized a shift in royal tradition.

By allowing great-grandchildren to inherit titles, the late queen ensured that the lineage of the monarchy would remain intact and relevant in modern times.

It is likely that this new standard will continue for future generations of the royal family.

As the royal family prepares for upcoming events, all eyes will be on the Trooping the Colour ceremony scheduled for June 15.

and Queen are set to make a public appearance, although there will be a notable absence.

Princess Kate, who recently announced her cancer diagnosis, will be missing from the celebrations as she undergoes preventative chemotherapy.

, however, is expected to attend.

As Colonel of the Welsh Guards, his military duties will likely take precedence, and royal analyst Richard Fitzwilliams speculates that he may attend solo, without the children.

Given the circumstances surrounding Kate’s health, it’s understandable that the family dynamics might shift during this time.

The absence of the Wales children at such a significant event marks a departure from tradition.

Typically, royal children are present at public celebrations, adding to the festive atmosphere.

However, this year’s Trooping the Colour may see a different approach, focusing more on the adults in attendance.
