Prince George’s School Dilemma: A Shift from Eton and Marlborough?

As the academic year draws to a close, all eyes are on Prince George and his impending boarding school choice.

The young royal has recently completed his placement exams for residential schools, and it appears that his parents, and Princess Kate, will play a key role in this significant decision.

With three contenders now on the table, the anticipation is building.

Speculation has swirled around the possibility of George attending Eton College, a prestigious institution that has educated both his father and uncle, .

However, recent reports suggest that the prince might also be eyeing Marlborough College, the same school his mother attended.

But there’s a new player in the mix: Oundel School in Northamptonshire, which is quickly becoming the frontrunner.

According to Marianca Swain from The Telegraph, Oundel School is gaining traction due to its unique blend of historical significance and modern values.

This independent public school prides itself on a robust pastoral care program, a commitment to environmental sustainability, and a vision that emphasizes equality.

For a royal couple like William and Kate, who have navigated the complexities of tradition and contemporary relevance, Oundel seems like a fitting choice.

Last year, there were signs that the scales were tipping in favor of Marlborough, especially after Kate was spotted visiting the campus twice.

However, Oundel’s appeal has surged, positioning it as the current favorite.

This co-educational institution, founded in the 16th century, offers a seven-day curriculum designed to foster a well-rounded education.

The school’s website provides an inviting glimpse into student life, including virtual tours of the campus.

Deputy Head Pastoral Anne Meissner highlights the importance of house communities at Oundel, stating that they create a nurturing environment where students can thrive.

“Our houses are at the heart of life at Oundel,” she explains, underscoring the supportive atmosphere that encourages personal growth.

A former Oundel student shared insights about the camaraderie fostered within the school.

Reflecting on their experience, they noted that everyone, whether boarding or day students, was treated equally.

This sense of community was bolstered by the school’s decision in 2000 to transition to a house system, which allowed students to form strong bonds and take on responsibilities.

While some may hold the stereotype that public school students lead pampered lives, the reality at Oundel is quite different.

Students are encouraged to develop independence and navigate diverse social interactions from an early age.

This aspect of the school’s culture may resonate well with the values that Prince William and Princess Kate wish to instill in their children.

Location is another critical factor in the school selection process.

The Wales family resides in Windsor, just a ten-minute drive from Eton.

In contrast, Marlborough is an hour away, while Oundel requires a two-hour journey.
