In a recent interview, former England rugby star Mike Tyndall shared some intriguing insights into his relationship with his mother-in-law, Princess Anne.
The conversation unfolded during a chat with TV host Susannah Reid on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, where Tyndall revealed the formal yet affectionate way he addresses the Princess Royal in private.
Tyndall, who has been part of the royal family since marrying Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tyndall, in 2011, described how he keeps their interactions respectful by simply calling her “Mam.”
This straightforward approach highlights the balance he strikes between being a son-in-law and a member of the royal family.
It’s fascinating to see how someone can navigate such a unique familial relationship while maintaining a sense of formality.
The discussion also touched on Tyndall’s podcast, “The Good, The Bad and The Rugby,” which he co-hosts with fellow rugby player James Haskell.
The pair have welcomed notable guests, including Princess Anne, Princess Kate, and Prince William, onto their show.
Tyndall emphasized the significance of these sporting conversations, especially during tough times for rugby.
He noted that the sport fosters inclusivity and community, bridging gaps among people from diverse backgrounds.
Tyndall’s commitment to showcasing rugby’s positive impact is evident.
He pointed out that Princess Anne has been a dedicated patron of the Scottish Rugby Union for over 37 years, reflecting her passion for the sport and its players.
He believes it’s vital to highlight why figures like her are drawn to rugby, as it plays a crucial role in building character and camaraderie.
On a different note, Tyndall also addressed misconceptions surrounding the royal family’s lifestyle.
In his book, “The Good, The Bad and The Rugby, Unleashed,” he clarifies that life within the royal household isn’t as glamorous as portrayed in shows like “Downton Abbey.”
Instead, he describes a more relatable and less formal environment, challenging the stereotypes often associated with royal living.
Having played professional rugby for 17 years, Tyndall’s transition into royal life came after he tied the knot with Zara in Edinburgh on July 30, 2011.
Their wedding took place just three months after the Prince and Princess of Wales exchanged vows at Westminster Abbey, marking a significant moment for both families.
Their love story began in Australia in 2003, and after seven years of dating, Mike proposed to Zara in December 2010.
Together, they have built a beautiful family with three children: Mia, 10, Lena, 6, and Lucas, 3.
Their busy household reflects a blend of royal and everyday life, making them relatable to many.
Interestingly, despite their connection to the royal family, the couple does not hold any official royal titles and does not receive financial support from the Crown.
