Hold on tight, everyone!
The legal saga involving Meghan Markle has taken another twist.
This time, it’s her half-sister, Samantha Markle, who’s stepping into the courtroom with a fresh lawsuit.
Samantha is making some serious claims, alleging that Meghan has defamed her so severely that finding work has become nearly impossible, and even grocery shopping feels like a daunting task.
It’s like a never-ending soap opera that just keeps rolling.
Samantha is not holding back, accusing Meghan of portraying her as a deceitful, racist fame-seeker.
According to court documents obtained by The Sun, Samantha insists that Meghan’s sensational stories have wreaked havoc on her reputation worldwide.
But where did all this drama begin?
It traces back to that explosive Oprah interview in 2021 and the Netflix series “Harry and Meghan,” which dropped in December 2022.
Those were the moments when Meghan opened up about her life, and boy, did she spill some tea!
Adding to the drama, back in March, a Florida judge named Charlene Edwards Honeywell dismissed Samantha’s previous case.
The judge ruled that Samantha failed to identify any specific defamatory statements made by Meghan.
That had to sting.
The court didn’t just toss it out; they did so with prejudice, meaning Samantha couldn’t simply try again.
But, undeterred, Samantha’s legal team is back at it, attempting to overturn that decision.
They argue that the judge overlooked implied defamation based on omitted facts.
It’s starting to feel like they’re clutching at straws.
The March ruling was a significant win for Meghan, as it meant she avoided a trial that was slated for November.
Samantha is seeking at least $75,000 in damages for both defamation and defamation by implication.
A pivotal moment in this ongoing saga occurred during Meghan’s Oprah interview when she claimed she grew up as an only child and suggested that Samantha only started using the Markle name after Meghan began dating Prince Harry.
Judge Honeywell determined that Meghan’s comments about her childhood were opinions rather than factual assertions.
As for the name change, the judge found it substantially accurate based on the evidence presented.
Talk about a major blow for Samantha!
Another interesting tidbit emerged from Prince Harry’s comments in the Netflix series, where he criticized British journalists for spreading hate and lies.
However, Judge Honeywell deemed this statement irrelevant to Samantha’s claims, suggesting it might have been a legal misstep or just an attempt to inject unnecessary drama into the case.
Despite these setbacks, Samantha isn’t backing down.
Just two days after Meghan’s 43rd birthday, she filed a new appeal, which seems like her last-ditch effort to keep this legal battle alive.
Coincidence?
We think not.
Samantha’s lawyers are now pushing for an oral hearing to discuss these so-called complex issues, although nothing has been scheduled just yet.
Meanwhile, while Samantha fights her legal battles, Meghan has been busy sharing her emotional journey on CBS News Sunday morning.
She opened up about her struggles with suicidal thoughts and the online abuse she faced during her time as a working royal.
