Labour MP Sparks Controversy Over Prince George’s Schooling Choices

In a surprising turn of events, Labour MP Clive Lewis has ignited a heated debate regarding the educational path of Prince George, the son of Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Lewis suggested that the young royal should attend a state school rather than follow in his father’s footsteps at Eton.

This assertion has drawn sharp criticism from various commentators, including television personality Jenny Powell, who firmly disagrees with the idea.

During a lively discussion on Channel 5’s “Alexis Conran and Friends,” Powell voiced her discontent with Lewis’s proposal.

She argued that the intense scrutiny Prince George would face as a future monarch attending a public institution would be overwhelming.

“What the heck?

You really need to give it some thought,” Powell exclaimed, emphasizing the need for parents to choose the best educational environment for their children.

Powell painted a vivid picture of the challenges George would encounter at a state school, saying, “Just imagine Prince George and the rest of us at the school gates.

It is simply not going to occur.” Her comments reflect the unique pressures that come with being a member of the royal family, suggesting that the eyes of the public would be upon him constantly.

The host of the show, Alexis Conran, quickly chimed in to support Powell’s stance, highlighting the absurdity of expecting a royal to navigate the complexities of a typical school experience.

Powell wrapped up her argument by stating, “Not like that.

Not if you’re Prince George enrolling at a state school.

Not a chance.” Her words resonated with many viewers who understand the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the young prince.

Clive Lewis had previously shared his thoughts on this matter, arguing that sending George to a state school could offer him a broader perspective on life.

He claimed that at a public institution, George would interact with a more diverse group of future subjects compared to the elite environment of Eton.

Lewis’s comments came amidst discussions within the Labour Party about the optics of George attending Eton, which is traditionally associated with privilege.

This conversation took place against the backdrop of a general consensus within the Labour Party that they were poised to win the upcoming election.

There were speculations about whether Prince William might be persuaded to consider alternative schooling options for his son.

However, insiders suggest that Catherine is likely to advocate for George to attend a co-educational school like Marlborough College, where fees can soar to £42,500 per year.

Currently, Prince George, along with his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, attends Lambrook School in Windsor, which charges around £12,000 annually.

This institution is considered a feeder school for Eton, aligning with the royal family’s traditional educational choices.
