King Charles III and Queen Camilla Revisit Arusha National Park on Royal Tour of Kenya

In a momentous return to Tanzania, III and Queen are currently on an official visit to Kenya, with their itinerary spanning from October 31 to November 3, 2023.

This royal journey marks a significant chapter in the family’s longstanding connection with East Africa.

The couple’s visit to Arusha National Park holds special meaning, as it recalls King Charles’s previous trip to Tanzania exactly twelve years ago.

Back in November 2011, when he was still known as the Prince of Wales, Charles embarked on a memorable walking safari through the park.

To honor this occasion, Tanzania erected a monument within the park commemorating the royal family’s visit.

This year, visitors to Arusha National Park can explore a newly established walking trail aptly named the King’s Trail.

It winds through the stunning landscape at the base of Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second highest peak.

The trail offers a unique opportunity for guests to trace the footsteps of the King and Queen while soaking in the breathtaking natural beauty of the park.

The King’s Trail features a monument located next to a fig tree that particularly captivated Charles during his 2011 excursion.

This fig tree has now become a symbol of the royal family’s bond with Tanzania.

Along the trail, visitors also have access to the picturesque Tallulah waterfall, enhancing the experience of exploring this remarkable environment.

On November 11, 2011, just days before his 63rd birthday, the then Prince of Wales enjoyed a leisurely nature walk in the park alongside his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, and the Duchess of Cambridge.

This private tour was exclusive, with only a select few officials permitted to accompany the dignitaries.

Justina Kiwango, Deputy Director of the Department of Conservation, shared insights about the royal family’s previous visit, emphasizing its privacy.
