Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla recently attended one of the most significant events on the royal calendar in London.
The event, known as the National Service of Remembrance or Remembrance Sunday, is an annual ceremony held to honor those who lost their lives in wars from the U.K. and Commonwealth nations.
The ceremony, which takes place every second weekend of November, saw members of the royal family gather at the Cenotaph War Memorial.
During the service, Kate Middleton, also known as the Princess of Wales, stood alongside Queen Camilla on the balcony of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Prince William and King Charles, their respective husbands, laid wreaths at the memorial as part of the solemn proceedings.
A poignant moment of silence was observed at Eleven a.m. local time to pay respects to the fallen heroes.
Kate Middleton adorned her black ensemble with a poppy pin, a symbol that has been used since 1921 to commemorate military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice.
She, along with other members of the royal family, have been seen wearing these pins throughout November.
Notably, Kate chose to wear three poppies, honoring her great-grandmother Olive Middleton’s three brothers who perished in World War I.
Queen Elizabeth, in her time, was known to wear five poppies during the Remembrance Sunday service.
Each poppy was believed to represent different services – army, navy, air force, civil defense, and women.
This year, an equerry from the royal household laid a wreath on behalf of Queen Camilla, featuring her racing colors and a personalized card bearing her new cipher.
The ceremony at the Cenotaph was also attended by other members of the royal family, including Prince Edward, Sophie Countess of Wessex, Princess Anne, Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Lawrence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and the Duke of Kent.
After the poppy tributes were laid, a brief service of prayers and hymns was led by the Bishop of London, culminating in the singing of the national anthem, God Save the King.
Following the service, King Charles and his family departed, with Camilla and Kate making their exits from the balcony.
Earlier in the week, Kate shared a heartwarming moment with a three-year-old boy named Akeem at Colham Manor Children’s Centre.
She gifted him her poppy pin, explaining its significance in remembering soldiers who died in wars.
On Saturday evening, Kate and Camilla joined other royal family members at the Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall.
Kate wore a black outfit paired with meaningful jewelry that belonged to her late grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth.
The Bahrain pearl drop earrings and a four-strand pearl choker necklace with a diamond centerpiece were also worn by Kate at Queen Elizabeth’s state funeral in September.
