The new Princess of Wales, Kate, recently shared a touching moment involving her son, Prince Louis, and the passing of the Queen.
Alongside Prince William, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle, Kate made a surprise appearance on the Long Walk in Windsor to observe tributes at Windsor Castle and engage with well-wishers.
Among the crowd was Bonita Ranno, 28, who overheard Kate sharing with nearby children what her youngest son, Louis, had expressed about the Queen’s death.
Louis, just four years old, remarked, “At least Granny is with Great-Grandpa now,” showcasing his innocent perspective on the loss.
Ms. Ranno noted that Kate appeared emotional as she interacted with the children, highlighting the vulnerability and humanity of the royal family in the face of such significant events.
Louis is one of the Queen and late Prince Philip‘s 12 great-grandchildren, having been previously seen alongside his siblings during the late monarch’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this summer.
In a statement released by Louis’ father, William, he emphasized the cherished memories his children have created with the Queen during holidays, memories that will endure a lifetime.
This sentiment was echoed as William, Harry, Kate, and Meghan set aside their differences to pay respects to the Queen, engaging with the public and acknowledging the outpouring of support.
A royal source revealed that William personally invited his brother and sister-in-law to join him on the walkabout, given that both couples were residing in Windsor at the time.
This marked the first public appearance of William and Kate since being bestowed the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales by the new King Charles, and the first joint appearance with Harry and Meghan since the Commonwealth Day service in early 2020.
Reports of strained relations between the brothers have circulated, with past tensions surfacing, including Meghan’s accusations towards Kate and Harry’s reflections on his relationship with William.
However, the somber occasion of the Queen’s passing seemed to unite the family in shared grief and remembrance.
Earlier in the day, William attended the accession council where his father, Charles, was formally declared monarch in a solemn ceremony.
Alongside the new Queen Consort Camilla and dignitaries, William witnessed the transition of power and the weight of sovereignty settling upon his father’s shoulders.
Meanwhile, at Balmoral, other members of the Queen’s family gathered to pay their respects and acknowledge the tributes left by well-wishers.
Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Tindall, Lady Louise Windsor, Sophie Wessex, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, Peter Phillips, Princess Anne, and Sir Timothy Lawrence all joined in reflecting on the Queen’s legacy and the impact of her passing on the royal family and the nation.
