Just a day after her groundbreaking visit to Ukraine, Duchess Sophie of Edinburgh made a striking appearance at the Windsor Horse Show.

This event marked a significant moment, as she became the first royal to set foot in Ukraine since the onset of the ongoing conflict with Russia.

During her visit, she met with both First Lady Olena Zelenska and President Volodymyr Zelensky, further solidifying her role as a prominent advocate for peace and women’s rights.

Her presence there sent a powerful message of solidarity during a time of turmoil, highlighting her commitment to addressing the impacts of war on vulnerable populations.

A passionate advocate against conflict-related s–ual violence, Sophie took a firm stance against the tactics employed by Russian forces, which have included s–ual assault as a weapon of war.

She brought with her a message from King Charles, who has recently resumed his official duties after battling cancer.

The specifics of the King’s upcoming travels remain uncertain, but a trip to Samoa, Australia, and New Zealand is on the horizon this autumn.

Sophie’s advocacy work has taken her across various regions, from Kosovo to Sierra Leone and Colombia.

Her relentless pursuit of justice for women affected by violence showcases her dedication to global humanitarian efforts.

At a dinner hosted by Martin Harris, the UK envoy to Ukraine, she made a poignant remark about the devastating use of rape as a weapon to dehumanize and destroy.

During her speech, she emphasized the urgent need for enhanced measures to prevent such atrocities and to support those who have suffered.

“When we are unable to stop it from happening, we need to take action to support people who have been the victims of these atrocities,” she stated, expressing deep gratitude to survivors for their willingness to share their harrowing experiences.

Sophie’s comments reflect a broader narrative that resonates with many around the world.

She noted that while the stories she hears are often tragic, the honesty and bravery of the victims in sharing their tales are commendable.

Her commitment to amplifying their voices is evident, as she continues to advocate for change and support.

The Duchess’s visit to Ukraine comes on the heels of other royal engagements relating to the ongoing crisis.
