The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a surprising appearance in London, portrayed as puppets in a one-off comedy show by the renowned comedian Al Murray.

These puppet versions of Harry and Meghan, created for the popular comedy sketch show Spitting Image, took the stage as royal guests for Murray’s performance at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall.

Al Murray, a co-writer for the recent stage production “Idiots Assemble, Spitting Image Saves the World,” which showcased the Sussex puppets among other famous figures like the King, rapper Stormzy, and Tom Cruise, has previously taken a humorous jab at and .

In a recent interview, Murray expressed his interest in interviewing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex through his alter ego, the Pup Landlord, to test their sense of humor.

The revival of the iconic show Spitting Image on Britbox in 2020, after a hiatus of 24 years, garnered significant attention.

Known for its satirical portrayal of well-known personalities through puppetry, the show originally aired for 18 seasons from 1984 to 1996, attracting a massive viewership during its prime.

A new musical inspired by the series, titled “Idiots Assemble, Spitting Image,” is set for a West End transfer following a successful run at Birmingham Rep, directed by Sean Foley and written by Al Murray, Matt Ford, and Sean Foley.

The production boasts a talented ensemble of voiceover artists and puppeteers, including notable names such as Oliver Criss, Katherine Drysdale, Jason Forbes, Luke Kempner, and more.

The team behind the scenes, responsible for bringing the puppets to life, comprises a skilled group of individuals dedicated to delivering an unforgettable performance.

With a legacy of multiple BAFTA and Emmy Awards, the show is set to captivate audiences once again with its return to ITV through a series of specials.

“Idiots Assemble, Spitting Image the musical” is scheduled to run from May 24th to August 26th, 2023, at the Phoenix Theatre on Charing Cross Road in London.
