The annual Hollywood Gala, hosted by the Janko Foundation, was held on September 29 at the One Hotel with the aim of raising funds to support vulnerable women and children in Nigeria.
The event’s main focus was on generating proceeds for the David Ulu Leadership Scholarship for Girls.
This scholarship initiative offers comprehensive assistance, encompassing tuition, accommodation, healthcare, and social support, to young girls who have faced gender inequality challenges in Nigeria.
By empowering these resilient girls in difficult circumstances, the scholarship program plays a crucial role in their advancement.
Moreover, the donations collected during the Gala will also aid in funding Janko’s upcoming special surgical mission to Nigeria, set for November 2023.
The event garnered significant backing from influential figures in the entertainment industry, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Honorary Chair Chelle Forgerer, David Ulu Gawker, and the 2023 Gates Foundation Goalkeepers.
Fakolu Gawker hosted the Gala, with past honorees and Oscar winners Sheree Thawne and Forrest Whitaker in attendance.
Previous editions of the Gala have seen the presence of notable guests like Rosario Dawson from The Mandalorian, Issa Scott from The Fast and Furious franchise, acclaimed producer, director, and writer Adur, and Sam Adoki from Dynasty.
Contrary to earlier reports, Meghan and Harry were not invited to the Foundation’s Gala.
However, it was disclosed that the couple made a donation to Janko in support of 2,500 school girls in Nigeria.
There was some confusion surrounding the number of backpacks provided through their contribution.
While a photo displayed 15 girls with backpacks, the report indicated that 2,500 girls would receive education on menstrual health.
According to an undisclosed source, during his address, Janko Foundation CEO F. Amona expressed gratitude to all those who made significant contributions to the organization, without singling out Meghan and Harry.
When questioned by a journalist about the Sussexes’ donation, the CEO swiftly responded, clarifying that their contribution covered only the minimum number of backpacks to cover costs.
However, it was presented as part of the total of 2,500, potentially leading to misinterpretation.
