Judy James, speaking to The Mirror, noted that the Sussexes appeared somber yet tense, possibly due to the added pressure of returning to the spotlight after a baby break.
During their entrance, Harry displayed signs of anxiety, subtly touching Meghan’s back and nervously adjusting his clothing.
Although Meghan walked briskly ahead, their reserved wave and smile to the crowd maintained their signature style.
James observed a lack of usual affection between the couple, attributing it to the event’s serious tone, suggesting they aimed for a more professional demeanor.
Inside the venue, Harry briefly placed his arm around Meghan for photos, but their smiles seemed forced and fleeting, indicating underlying tension.
Harry’s attentive glances towards Meghan went unnoticed, hinting at her own apprehension amidst the high-profile return to public life.
This New York trip marked Meghan’s first visit to the city since her extravagant 2019 baby shower, which reportedly cost around £300,000.
Having relocated from the UK to a lavish $15 million California mansion in 2020, the Sussexes left their children at home during their New York excursion.
Their upcoming joint appearance at Global Citizen Live, a 24-hour global broadcast advocating for vaccine equity amid the COVID crisis, will be their first since Lilibet’s birth.
Scheduled to air on Saturday at 5 pm, the event will be broadcasted by BBC One from New York City’s Central Park.
Global Citizen, an organization focused on eradicating poverty and combating climate change, announced Meghan and Harry’s participation, praising them as influential advocates for vaccine equity.
The live event aims to pressure G7 countries and the EU to share one billion COVID-19 vaccines with developing nations.
Meghan, who has expressed her admiration for New York City in the past, is expected to join her husband in this significant global initiative.
