Baffled Spotify Bosses Threaten Harry and Meghan Over Podcast Deal

Harry and Meghan find themselves under pressure to deliver content for their £18 million podcast deal with Spotify, as the streaming platform grows increasingly concerned over the lack of new episodes.

The couple, who only released a single 35-minute holiday special in December last year, have left Spotify executives puzzled by their apparent delay in producing further shows.

Despite the high expectations set by Spotify’s announcement of a full-scale launch of content from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex throughout 2021, only one episode has been aired so far.

Each minute of content produced has cost Spotify £500,000, with the couple failing to meet the anticipated output.

While Harry has made appearances on various other podcasts, including Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert in May, Meghan has also been active, participating in interviews such as the Oprah special in March and engaging in playful antics on shows like Elle and DeGeneres earlier this month.

However, the focus remains on fulfilling their commitment to Spotify.

Sources reveal that Spotify has urged Harry and Meghan to prioritize their podcast content to safeguard the future of their multi-million pound deal.

The couple, who recently appointed veteran podcast producer Rebecca Sarnes as head of audio, are reportedly working towards announcing a series of new episodes in time for Christmas.

Experts speculate on the challenges faced by Harry and Meghan in meeting the demands of their contract, with concerns raised about their ability to deliver six shows by the end of the year.

Former Metro Royal correspondent Neil Sean suggests that there may be doubts about the couple’s continuation with the deal, emphasizing the pressure to produce tangible results.

The nature of Harry and Meghan’s deal with Spotify is described as a development agreement, offering guidance and collaboration rather than a straightforward financial transaction.

Legal experts emphasize the importance of meeting contractual deadlines, with solicitors highlighting the potential consequences of failing to deliver on agreed terms.

As speculation mounts regarding the progress of their podcast series, both Harry and Meghan are anticipated to address the situation in due course.

With Spotify teasing “big things” on the horizon, the spotlight remains on the couple’s ability to deliver engaging and timely content for their eager audience.
