Prince George Makes History at Grandfather’s Coronation

Prince George, the second-in-line to the British throne, recently made history by becoming the youngest future king to play a role in a coronation ceremony.

The nine-year-old future monarch took part in his grandfather King Charles III’s crowning ceremony on Saturday, serving as a page.

George was seen walking behind his grandfather, looking all grown up in a red overcoat, while holding the tail end of the king’s coat as they entered Westminster Abbey for the historic event.

Accompanying Prince George were other pages including Lord Oliver Chomderley, Master Nicholas Barclay, and Master Ralph Ptolemachy, each holding portions of the king’s robe as they walked behind him.

On the other hand, Camilla Parker Bowles’ pages of honor were her grandsons Master Gus, Master Louis Lopez, Master Freddie Parker Bowles, and great-nephew Master Arthur Elliot, who made their first public appearance by holding onto the extended train of her royal robe during the ceremony.

Leading up to the momentous occasion, a spokesperson for Kensington Palace expressed excitement about Prince George’s involvement in the coronation, emphasizing the significance of the event.

Prince William, the Prince of Wales, also played a role in the ceremony by reading the homage of the royal blood while kneeling before Charles.

Prince Harry, Charles’ other son, was present at the event despite ongoing public family tensions, although his wife Meghan Markle chose to stay in Montecito, California, with their children Archie and Lilibet I.

The coronation ceremony, held on May 6 at Westminster Abbey, formalized Charles’ position as the head of the Church of England and marked the transfer of his title and powers.

During the ceremony, Charles was crowned with the St. Edward’s crown from the 17th century, a nearly five-pound crown with a solid gold frame adorned with 444 stones.

The day was also significant for Camilla, who was anointed and crowned as Queen, making her the first divorcee to hold the title.

While the actual anointment was not publicly broadcast, special programming and live footage from the ceremony were available for viewing starting at 5 am ET on CBS and Paramount Plus.

Viewers could also catch coverage on CBS News, including a concert featuring Katy Perry and Lionel Richie on May 7.

Streaming platforms offered online viewing options for those interested in witnessing the historic event unfold.

The coronation marked a pivotal moment in British history, with Prince George’s participation adding a unique touch to the traditional ceremony.

As the royal family continues to navigate public scrutiny and family dynamics, the world eagerly awaits the next chapter in their story.
