King Charles, aged 74, delighted spectators as he graced the May Highland Games in the charming village of John O’Groats last Saturday.
The monarch indulged in a touch of excitement during his visit to the traditional Scottish event on August 5.
Dressed in a classic kilt paired with a stylish green tweed jacket, a matching waistcoat, and striking red woolen stockings, Charles exuded elegance and regality.
Upon his arrival at the picturesque village of John O’Groats, King Charles radiated a sense of ease, taking the opportunity to greet attendees with handshakes and friendly waves.
Seated comfortably in the front row under the protective canopy, he added a touch of coolness by putting on his sunglasses and savoring a glass of whisky while observing the festivities unfold before him.
The day’s program included enthralling events such as the traditional caber toss and tug of war.
The inaugural May Games took place in the nearby village of May back in 1970, marking a celebration of the Queen Mother’s 70th birthday.
As the esteemed guest of honor at that momentous occasion, she lauded the success of the event and urged the organizers to establish it as an annual tradition.
Recently bestowed with the prestigious sword, scepter, and crown known as the Honour of Scotland during a historic coronation ceremony, Charles had also graced last year’s Games, which held special significance as the first post-pandemic edition.
Ahead of an anticipated royal gathering at the iconic Balmoral Castle to commemorate the passing of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on the anniversary of her demise, King Charles is slated to be joined by senior members of the royal family, who will also observe the milestone of his ascension to the throne.
Speculation arose regarding the absence of communication with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in relation to the royal event, leading to conjecture about their potential exclusion.
A source disclosed to The Sun that should they not be part of the official plans, they would seek to establish their own form of acknowledgment.
Following the Balmoral event, Prince Harry is scheduled to travel to Düsseldorf, Germany, for the 2023 Invictus Games commencing on September 9.
Subsequently, his wife, Meghan Markle, is expected to join him a few days later as they engage in various engagements before culminating their participation at the closing ceremony on September 16.
The couple was recently spotted leaving a high-profile eatery in Montecito, California, on the evening of Wednesday, August 2, just ahead of the Duchess’ birthday celebrations on Friday, August 4.
