Meghan Markle, the former actress and self-proclaimed Duchess of Sussex, encountered a hostile and humiliating reception at the South by Southwest, SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.
On Monday, she took the stage to deliver a speech about her experiences as a mother and a feminist.
However, the audience, who had paid a significant fee to attend the festival and listen to her speech, responded with boos, jeers, and shouts of “get out of here,” expressing their displeasure and disgust towards her and her actions.
Hoping to leverage the festival as an opportunity to promote herself and her controversial Netflix deal, Meghan was left speechless and furious by the audience’s reaction.
As a co-founder of the Archwell Foundation and Archwell Productions, as well as a feminist and advocate for human rights and gender equity, Meghan was invited to speak on the opening day of the festival, which celebrates the convergence of technology, film, television, and music.
Her planned speech, titled “Redefining Motherhood: How I Found My Voice and My Purpose,” aimed to share her insights and challenges as a mother of two children, Archie and Lilibet, and as a woman of color in the media and entertainment industry.
Upon her appearance on stage, Meghan was met with boos, hisses, and signs bearing messages such as “Megxit Liar” and “Fake,” along with attendees wearing t-shirts that read “Teen Kate” and “God Save the Queen.”
Some members of the audience even resorted to throwing tomatoes and eggs in her direction, narrowly missing her head.
The predominantly royal family and British culture fans in attendance were outraged and offended by Meghan’s presence and statements, particularly following her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, where she levied allegations of racism, neglect, and abuse against the monarchy and the media.
Despite the audience’s negative reception, Meghan attempted to proceed with her speech, focusing on her children, Archie and Lilibet, as sources of inspiration for her pursuits and aspirations.
Displaying photos of her children on a large screen behind her, purportedly taken by herself and Harry at their Montecito residence, Meghan faced skepticism from the audience.
Recognizing the images from social media and online platforms like the subreddit SaintMeghanMarkle, attendees noted discrepancies in the children’s features, skin tones, and hair colors, as well as evident signs of editing and manipulation.
The audience’s discontent grew as Meghan persisted in her address, prompting further boos, chants, and demands for her departure.
Expressions such as “stop lying” and “go back to Hollywood” filled the venue, accompanied by calls for Kate Middleton, Queen Elizabeth II, and King Charles, who ascended the throne in 2023 following his mother’s passing.
Fans of Harry, the former Prince of Wales, expressed disappointment and urged him to separate from Meghan and return to the UK at his discretion.
The atmosphere at the festival remained charged with tension and animosity towards Meghan, reflecting a deep-seated divide among attendees regarding her presence and narrative.
